In this era of Digitalization and rapidly changing work culture the 21st Century New Age Schools have to ensure that the students are getting prepared for the Future. According to a recent Oxford University study “Around 47% of the jobs that are existing today could be automated in next 2 decades”.
Therefore, to combat challenges a world that is changing at the speed of light and to meet new job standards of the 21st century, it has become critical that schools must adapt and evolve.
1. Equipping the Students with 21st Century Skills – The Future will be full of complexities, conflicts and uncertainty. Schools need to incorporate the 21st Century Skills that can help to make the today’s young generation creative, resilient and adaptable problem solvers. Therefore schools should focus on developing the ability of the students to devise solutions that can help them solve problems or face real world challenges.
2. Enable PBL (Problem Based Learning) – While 21st Century Skills are critical, it is equally necessary ascertain what these skills look like, how they will be developed in classrooms and how they can be measured. PBL or Problem Based Learning is a time tested method to imbibe and measure skills for learners in K-12 schools. Problem Based Learning helps inculcate the right mindset amongst learners and helps them deal with real life challenges that they may face both as entrepreneurs and employees.
3. Child-centric Learning Spaces– Every flower blooms at a different pace similarly every child’s capacity to absorb knowledge varies. The Learning environment and spaces should be child centric. Activities and tasks should be relevant as per the child’s interest level and creativity. Unlike the traditional the classroom which simply cannot enable differentiated learning, the learning spaces should be flexible and open so that they can be configured to ensure each child can be taught in multiple ways paving way for creativity and diversity.
4. Safety and Health – “Health is Wealth”. New Age Schools should help develop lifelong habits of eating nutritious food and exercising. The science of right body posture and biomechanics is a must, especially with the advent of devices. Indian mega cities such as Delhi and Mumbai have highly polluted air. Schools must install centralized air purification systems to protect children since their lungs are far more sensitive.
